I originally wanted to use the 1978 reissue poster for this episode. (Luke and Leia are prominent on that one.) Then something just clicked into my mind and I thought “Action figures!” I found some great images of the original figures in packaging and the rest fell into place pretty easily. I started by changing the Kenner logo into Unspooled. The episode and AFI number are in the top right corner replacing the toy number. Then I had a photo of Paul from NTSF:SD:SUV:: and the wig and pose was perfect. For Amy I found a photo of her in headphones and that made the most sense for Leia’s buns. Add their Star Wars names to the label and a few tweaks to the figures and it’s one of my favorites!
Amy & Paul make the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs to 1977’s George Lucas space fantasy Star Wars! They learn why Carrie Fisher hated those buns, praise the visionary designs of Ralph McQuarrie, and ask if we can still appreciate it as a single film in a post Star Wars world. Plus: Paul Hirsch, the editor of Star Wars, talks about bringing Lucas’ vision to the final cut.
